On Sunday the 18th of September, the bowls club hosted its annual pairs competition. 20 pairs entered and the day started with a minute silence in respect of the late queen and the club's flag was flown at half-mast. We were once again lucky with the weather and although it was overcast and windy at times, Helen Day kept players and supporters topped up with tea and biscuits, thank you. Each team played 4 games and after their second game players and spectators enjoyed their lunch of sausage and mash and a choice of desserts. After the group stage Peter Day announced all Balsham semi-final games, Rob Walker and Phil Elliott played Jenny Clarkson and Steve Thurgood. Whilst on the other rink Steve and Trish Newman played John Robinson and Gordon Cubitt. In the final Rob Walker and Phil Elliott played Steve and Trish Newman, the latter won and was presented the Trophy by Phil from The Bell Inn. Thank you and congratulations to all the pairs but especially Steve and Trish for winning this year. There are many thank You’s to be said for organising such a great day and tournament. Phil and Mary from The Bell Inn for contributing prize money. Peter Day for doing the admin and hosting on the day. Nicki Elliott and Dave Gedny for braving the wind and organising the raffle, which ran throughout the day. Brian Wilderspin manned the bar and provided much needed refreshments to everyone there. The 5 servers/washer uppers, Dot, Margaret P, Jennifer, Margaret S and Ann, thanks for making my life easier. And lastly to my co-chef, skivvy and potato masher, Simon, thank you. All in all, a very successful day had by all and some much needed funds raised for the bowls club, in total £670 was raised so once again thank you to everyone involved. Christine Till
